Aruba Livestock Renewal Supports Animal Health and Biosecurity

Aruba has added 64 purebred goats, sheep and pigs to its livestock program in the first major genetic renewal of its kind in 14 years.

The group includes Boer and Nubian goats, Dorper and White Dorper sheep, and Landrace, Yorkshire and Duroc pigs. The program is intended to reduce inbreeding risks that can affect fertility, productivity and animal health.

Support for registered farmers

Some sheep and goats will be offered at purchase cost to farmers registered with Aruba’s Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries. The pigs will remain at Santa Rosa as part of its breeding program.

Santa Rosa is also preparing stable renovations focused on hygiene, biosecurity and animal care. Together, the livestock renewal and facility work are intended to strengthen local agricultural capacity and food resilience.
